MATTER OF TIME Project: Disintegration
“We suspect that digital optical sensors like cameras capture “reality” as truthfully as possible, providing a perfect representation. But is this true, or can it ever be, on a fundamental level? In a normal digital camera there are already several algorithms at work before the image is sent to something that we would recognize as a “computer”, which then employs even more computational methods to receive, store and display the image. So our view of the world through these digital “eyes” is heavily mediated.
In “Disintegration”, this view gets fragmented more and more until its temporal integrity is corrupted on the atomic level of the representation layer. In a practical sense, each pixel of the digital image exists in its own timeline, independent from the others, and strays away further and further from the community that forms the coherent picture.” Marc-andré Weibzahn
