RE Project: Feeling – No Pain
Nicole Benewaah is a photographer and visual designer. Her photographs are a composition of art, portraiture and documentation. In her personal work Nicole Benewaah focuses on social phenomena, such as the under- and misrepresentation of people of colour. With the aim of avoiding Western reproduced stereotypical images, her photographs become the voice that draws attention to the traces people leave behind, the social structures in which we move, where imbalances prevail.
At the centre of her photographs is the expressive motive, in many cases black women. These are in harmony and connection with a common background, whereby Nicole Benewaah opens up a space through the medium of photography to tell a story, to show a reality, to raise questions, to draw attention and to enter into conversation.
“My aim is to make photographs that are respectful and appreciative, only by constantly reflecting on these, can I approach this.” – Nicole Benewaah
