MATTER OF TIME Project

“Filantes” performed by the group ” El Maghroumine “

“Filantes” is a performative embodiment of the concept of “ephemerality”.

In the spirit of the philosopher Paul Ricoeur who said that human experience is above all temporal, traversing bodies take the shape of a caravan in constant motion.

Through “Filantes”, dancers become particles of an infinitely larger whole, entering into a dialogue with each other and the environment, together creating a shared sensitive space.

Wether it be day or night, stars find themselves on an endless journey, their movements nourished by rotations, convolutions and spirals, organized in space and time. Similarly, “Filantes” highlights the collective while at the same time revealing singularities. Each individual appears discretely but flagrantly, demonstrating their own memory and identity.

After a first performance of “Filantes” in Bab Bhar during Carthage Dance Festival in 2019, Cyrinne Douss brings “El Maghroumine” to Ennejma Ezzahra and adapts the performance to its unique spacial context.

BIO

Cyrinne Douss is a dancer, choreographer and contemporary dance teacher who has been creating her own pieces since 2010 while living between Paris and Tunis.During her time as a trainee choreographer in the framework of “Prototype IV” (2016-2017), a training program hosted by the Royaumont Abbey (France) nd focussing on “amateur and virtuoso bodies”, she developed the prototype of “Filantes”. This training led her to reflect on the notion of amateurs dancers in Tunisia and create the group “El Maghroumine” in 2019. The aim of the group is to make dance more accessible to dancers as well as spectators, but also to rethink the common spaces of where dance is performed.
